Jamsetji Nasserwanji Tata one of India’s greatest pioneer and industrialist was born on 3rd March 1839 at Navasari in Gujarat.He graduated from Eliphinstone College in 1858 as a “green Scholar”. He began his business career at the age of 29 by starting a small trading firm with a capital of 21,000/- .This was the foundation of Tata group .During his lifetime jamsetji setup textile mills and built the first modern hotel – the Tajmahal Palace Hotel- for his beloved city of Bombay (now Mumbai) .In 1892 ,his philanthropic principle led to the foundation of “J.N .Tata Endowment “ for higher education of Indian students which provides funds regardless of caste or creed .He envisioned the setting up of three projects the were essential for economic progress and future development of India- they were steel,electric power and technical education combined with research which resulted in Tata Steel;Tata Powers ; and the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru.His anticipation of modern and scientific thinking, labour welfare,integrity,concern for environment are apt even today as they were in his time.
